Rolf Prima Shipping New Vigor Wheel System
Since resigning his employment at Trek last fall, the lights have been on in Rolf Dietrich's shop - literally around the clock. Rolf is back in a big way; the high-end wheel designer has developed three new wheelsets and has been granted new US patents with more pending. Dietrich has also signed licensing agreements with numerous industry companies.
Rolf Prima's new Vigor wheel system is a light weight aerodynamic wheel set with just 14 bladed spokes in the front wheel and 16 spokes in the rear wheel. "I've worked with this basic design every day of my life during the last five years and these new Vigor wheels embody everything I know. Its nice to see all the work really pay off; these wheels are lighter and stronger than any of my previous aerodynamic wheels."
Rolf Prima claims Vigor wheels are not only very efficient aerodynamically, but also very light. "With the Vigor, you get it all - they weigh less than most so-called 'climbing' wheels and even some carbon tubulars. They are extremely fast. Light weight and supreme aerodynamic efficiency are generally exclusive things - its very difficult to get both in one wheel."
According to Rolf Prima, the key to the light weight of the Vigor wheel system is a new alloy clincher rim. The 34mm tall rim required development of new technology in order to manufacture it. Rolf Prima believes this rim to be the lightest of its kind. "We set a maximum allowable rim weight and then figured out how to make it" Dietrich said. "The combination of super aerodynamic performance with minimal rotating weight makes Vigor wheels very satisfying to ride."
The Vigor wheel system weight is 1425 grams. Front and rear wheels weigh 625 grams and 800 grams respectively. Vigor wheel systems include custom width reinforced rim tape, titanium quick release skewers, and padded wheel bags. Vigor wheel systems are available now.
Rolf Dietrich is the inventor and originator of the Paired Spoke Design concept in bicycle wheels. The defining design element in Dietrich's wheels is Paired Spoke Design Technology, which enables lighter and stronger wheels with fewer spokes than is possible with traditional wheels. Rolf Prima Incorporated, is located in Eugene, Oregon.
