2009 Washington DC Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship series

This past Sunday Rolf Prima athletes Hunter Kemper and Jarrod Shoemaker traveled to Washington D.C. for the third of eight installments of the ITU World Championship triathlon series. Struggling with a SI Joint injury, Kemper went into the race with few expectations for a high finish. He knew he would be able to swim hard and bike hard, but was concerned he would not be able to perform on the run leg. Starting off strong, Kemper won the swim prime and went on to win the second bike prime. Kemper entered the run leg working with four other athletes to create a two-minute gap on the field. Running through the pain, Kemper crossed 5th, only 1:26 behind the winner.

Also racing strongly, Jarrod Shoemaker led the run chase group closing the gap on Kemper and the leaders. Ultimately Shoemaker ran out of pavement and crossed 8th, only 17 seconds behind Kemper. With his recent placement, Shoemaker moves up to 5th in the world for the ITU World Championship series.

Both Kemper and Shoemaker are on their way to Des Moines, Iowa next weekend for the next race of the Dextro Energy Triathlon series.
