Jarrod Shoemaker moves into 4th in the world in the ITU Triathlon standings

This past Saturday, 62 athletes hit the warm and calm waters for the start of the ITU Hy-Vee Elite Cup, held in Des Moines, Iowa. Exiting the water with the leaders, Jarrod Shoemaker had a quick transition to the bike and helped set a fast pace for the field on his Rolf Prima TdF38 Clinchers. With attack after attack, the field at times averaged over 26 mph. American Matt Reed and Great Britain's Stuart Hayes broke away and held the lead with almost a minute on the chase group going into the second transition. A group of six including Shoemaker was able to reel in the two-man breakaway to take the lead within the first lap.

A sprint finish gave Shoemaker the fastest run of the day, crossing the finish line only four-seconds behind the winner in 5th place for the day. With Shoemakers latest finish he moves up to 4th in the world for the ITU World Championship series.

Watch for Shoemaker at the next installment of the 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship series in Kitzbuhel, Australia on July 12th.
