Jarrod Shoemaker wins Hamburg Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series

Traveling to Hamburg, Germany this past Saturday, Jarrod Shoemaker brought home his first win for the Dextro Energy Triathlon series.

Shoemaker started the race with a strong swim that placed him only 30 seconds behind the leader. With a quick transition, Shoemaker used the bike leg to move up in the field. However a successful breakaway of four off the front caused Shoemaker to go into the second transition with almost a minute and a half to make up. Opening it up in the run, Shoemaker was able to gain ground and with 5km to go he passed Christian Prochnow, the home town crowd favorite. Shoemaker held his lead to run 29:37 for the 10k and win the Hamberg Dextro Energy, ITU World Championship Series. Moving his overall ranking up to 5th in the world.

"I really had to work in the swim, but felt great on the bike and then just opened up on the run." said Shoemaker. "This race is the race other races look up to, and with such an awesome crowd and 9000 age group triathletes competing, it's a special place. I decided that today I would just run all out, I've sat in the pack too much this year so to pull off the win is great!"

Watch Shoemaker in the next series of the Dextro Energy Triathlon, in London on August 15th.
