Vigor's win big in Portland Twilight Criterium
Friday night brought an intense racing atmosphere for all involved and watching. With thousands in the crowds, yelling, clapping and swinging cow bells, the party started as the guys were warming up. The six corner course and narrow streets created a race peppered with crashes.
Within the second lap Adrian Hegyvary of Hagens-Berman attacked off the front with Evan Elken and Aaron Tuckerman of Land Rover-Orbea and Steven Beardlsey of Gentle Lovers following in tow. The four quickly set a fast pace, staying out front, but failed to ever gain a significant lead on the field. With the breakaway so close to the field, riders attempted to bridge, but were dropped, flatted or sometimes crashed out. Hegyvary, Elken and Beardsley remained at the front, trying to cash in on their efforts of the day.
With only a few laps to go, Hegyvary's teammate Sam Johnson bridged up to the breakaway to set up the sprint finish for Hegyvary. Finishing within inches of each other Hegyvary took the sprint finish with Elken taking second.
Rounding out the top five, all on their Rolf Prima Vigor's;

2 Evan Elken - Land Rover-ORBEA Benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation
