Gina Crawford takes second at IronMan New Zealand
Adding another impressive finish to her 2010 record, Gina Crawford came in second at IronMan New Zealand this past weekend.
With a strong start, Crawford was the first women out of the water and led with a 30-second gap transitioning to the bike. Fighting cramping legs and windy conditions, Crawford knew she needed to race hard to hold her lead. At around 40km Joanna Lawn, six-time defending champion, from New Zealand caught up to Crawford and the two never strayed more than a few second from each other during the first 100km. Quickly transitioning to the run, Crawford was now two minutes behind Lawn and knew she needed to push even harder. Battling stomach cramps, Crawford was not able to catch Lawn, but did hold her position for a second place finish for the day.
Catch Crawford at the next race on her schedule in May at IronMan St. George, UT.
