Kate Bevilaqua wins Ironman Korea

A last minute decision to race the 2011 Ironman Korea paid off for Kate Bevilaqua this past weekend with her second Ironman title. Ironman Korea is a punishing event with its hot temperatures and high humidity.

The day started out as planned for Bevilaqua. She knew she was up against strong swimmers and would need to minimize any time lost in swim so she could make it up on the bike. Third out of the water and a little over five-minutes behind the leader, Bevilaqua quickly took control of the hilly bike course. With the fastest bike split of 5:04:49, Bevilaqua gained and then continued to push her lead in the run. A marathon time of 3:35:28 secured the win for Bevilaqua and the fastest run split of the day.

"Oh it was tough," Bevilaqua said . "The swim was beautiful and I really enjoyed it as the fog lifted and the conditions were great. The wind picked up a bit on the bike and there were a few climbs out there so you had to take it steady. And then it was just survival on the run with the hills and heat and humidity. If you didn't take something in at every aid station you were in trouble. I was just glad to finish."

Bevilaqua races on Rolf Prima a TdF58SL 650c wheel set.
