Jan Rehula takes 4th at Australian LD Championships
A chilly Saturday mornning welcomed the Aussie Champs at the famous Ski Resort of Falls Creek. A stunning men field included Rolf Prima’s Jan Rehula, Joe Gambles, Tim Reed,Luke Bell, David Dellow, Mich Anderson, Lindsey Wall with some international flavour from N. Zeland, Italy, Austria and Czech.
At 7:20 a.m. the gun went off and half way through the 2km diamond shaped swim course smaller front groups formated. Jan Rehula worked his way through to exit the pristine water lake in 1st place.
On the bike Luke Bell hit it really hard and with only Joe Gambles and Tim Reed within ninety-seconds of him. The weather was getting colder as greyish cold clowds polled the curtain over the early morning sun. At the end of the bike Rehula came in 5th into transition riding his Rolf Prima Carbon TdF38-SL.
Athletes then had the opportunity to run on the beautiful trails around the Aquaduct creeks surrounded by the fragrant Eucalypt trees. In the front of the men´s field the battle was on. Joe Gambles closing on Luke Bell. After the first 5kms Joe took the lead and Tim Reed looked determined in second place, Luke third, Rehula 4th. Around the 12km mark Rehula passed Luke Bell. “After enjoying a few kilometres in the podium position I could feel the intense pace of Mitch Anderson behind me, I tried to match his speed but his surges were too much for my brief traning base.“ said Rehula. “In the end I was more than HAPPY with the 4th place.“
